I spent the past 20 years working professionally in the areas of interactive gaming, film, TV, video production, and web media creation.
For nearly 12 years, I supervised the Cinematic Department for Sony PlayStation. I was fortunate enough to get a chance to play in that huge sandbox, working with some of the world’s best animators, technicians, and visual effects artists.
Upon leaving PlayStation …
The economy was tanking, people were losing their jobs, and I did what any genius would do and …
Go to Hollywood and make an independent film!
The film, called DO-OVER, came close at getting made, but there are tons films that “almost” get made in Hollywood.
My film was just another one of those sad tales that was not meant to be …
But from that experience …
I was searching for a way to make films without the permission of so many gate keepers …
And I was searching for a way to build a sustainable living from this notion.
I HAVE A DREAM …
I’ve spent the past few years studying online business and marketing.
I figure that there must be a way to take the strategies and techniques used by all these successful online entrepreneurs and apply it to a film product.
The first barrier was to develop a film project that could be made around the schedule of my full time job.
The second barrier would be to find a strategy to sell that film product online directly to an audience.
After starting and stopping several film projects …
I knew from my production background that many of my projects would be too expensive or completely undoable to produce around my full time job.
But then …
After a dream …
It came to me …
THE CUBE
Stressed out by the possibility of the company I was working for going under …
The night of my wife’s birthday, I had to “let go” of all that fear and just learn to enjoy the moment …
That night I had a dream …
And I awoke with the clearest thought I’d ever had …
I saw the beginning, middle, and end for a movie that could be made in my own house.
Other filmmakers have done this way before me, so it’s not revolutionary …
But, sometimes it just takes the rest of us to catch up.
The feature film that I made is called, THE CUBE.
The amazing thing about this film is that it was made for $500 with no crew!
Yep … No crew.

OPEN THE GATES!
After making THE CUBE, I started to see things differently.
It was the film that I needed in order to break the “seal” …
Creatively, I began to see all sorts of new stories that could be told with only the limited resources in front of me.
THE CUBE allowed me to produce a film product for practically no money.
I had a digital product that I could start selling online!
But I knew from all my studies on business and marketing …
That this was only part of the journey …
There was much more to be done …
FILM TROOPER
If you have ever attended a film festival and stayed for the Q&A session with the filmmaker, I guarantee that someone will ask, “What did you shoot your film on, and what was the budget?”
Haha. No one cares about your film!
Everyone is interested in the “How was it made?” …
Film Trooper is a platform to discuss the “How” things are done …
By using THE CUBE as a case study, I can leverage Film Trooper as a resource at helping filmmakers who want to become entrepreneurs.
Join me as I develop practical strategies of how “true” independent filmmakers can fulfill their creative need of making their films for nothing …
And build a sustainable living with their work …
Let’s debunk the myth of the starving artist …
And let’s all learn how to become Film Troopers.
